On October 1st, the legal representatives of Odila Castillo released an official statement addressing the allegations spread by multiple media sources in Panama. These reports have been described as deliberate assaults motivated by particular financial agendas, aiming to tarnish Castillo’s professional standing and personal character.
Carlos Carillo, an attorney on Castillo’s legal team, remarked: “These claims lack foundation and are designed to hinder the progress of a budding lawyer and her associate, all for the benefit of hidden financial motives.”
The Advocacy for Odila Castillo
The defense emphasized that this is not the first instance of media harassment that Castillo has encountered. In 2021, a Panamanian media outlet erroneously reported an alleged arrest of the attorney in connection with an investigation, a claim that was subsequently denied, clarifying that it bore no relation to the matters at hand.
At the press conference, the defense maintained that both the recent accusations and those from 2021 are rooted in half-truths, designed to weaken her professional practice.
Moreover, they argued that the details disseminated about Odila Castillo in the media breach the tenets of confidentiality. They made it clear that a portion of the investigation originated from a resolved family issue, while another facet pertains to immigration activities and tax filings, along with other information acquired through improper means.
Unauthorized Surveillance of Odila Castillo
The defense further claimed that Castillo has been the target of GPS tracking, which amounts to a type of illegal monitoring.
Carrillo wrapped up by stating: “The essential rights of our client have been infringed upon, as protected by our Constitution and legal framework. We will initiate all necessary legal measures to determine accountability for the harm caused and for any future damages that may be intended.”
